Printing

Three ways we print

01

Rapid Prototyping

LPBF needs no hard tooling, so a design change means a new file, not a new mold or fixture. That makes it practical to print two or three variations of a part in the time a single traditionally manufactured prototype would take, testing what actually works before committing to a production run.

  • No tooling required between iterations
  • Design validation before production commitment
  • Low minimums, down to single units
02

Parts Replacement

When a part fails or goes obsolete, we print a fit-for-purpose replacement with no tooling and no long lead time. This matters most for legacy equipment the original manufacturer no longer supports, or when a cast or forged replacement would mean weeks of downtime. Given the geometry and a suitable material, a first article can usually turn around in days, not months.

  • No hard tooling or minimum order quantity
  • Suited to legacy and obsolete parts
  • Days, not months, for a first article
03

Serial Production

Once a design is locked, build quality holds run after run, across both dedicated production channels. Each channel runs a single material, with no powder swaps or machine reconfiguration between jobs, just repeatable builds on hardware already dialed in for that material. Unit 50 behaves the same as unit one.

  • Two channels, one material each, zero cross-contamination risk
  • Repeatable build parameters run to run
  • Scales from short runs to ongoing production

Getting a part print-ready

01

Consulting

Not every part is a good fit for LPBF. We assess a 3D file, engineering drawings, or a physical part against its geometry, material, and planned volume, and weigh that against what additive manufacturing does well compared to machining, casting, or other traditional processes. Sometimes the answer is print it. Sometimes it isn't, and we'll say so.

  • Design and geometry review
  • Material fit assessment
  • Volume and cost comparison vs. traditional processes
02

Materials Development

Our standard offering covers two qualified alloys, Aluminum 6061-RAM2 and Inconel 625-RAM2, but not every application fits neatly into those two. Adjusting print parameters, laser power, scan speed, layer thickness, for a material outside those two is work we do in-house. Sourcing an entirely new powder chemistry is a different undertaking, and typically routes through an outside powder producer.

  • Material selection guidance
  • Process parameter development
  • New alloy chemistries sourced through outside powder producers when needed
03

Design & Part Optimization

A part designed for machining rarely takes full advantage of what LPBF can do. We work from a 3D model you provide, or build one from a physical part or drawings if that's what you have, then review orientation, support strategy, and wall thickness before a build starts. We also look for opportunities most traditional designs miss: topology optimization to cut weight, lattice structures where solid material is doing little work, and consolidating what used to be a multi-part assembly into a single print.

  • Orientation and support strategy
  • Topology optimization and weight reduction
  • Multi-part assembly consolidation

After the part prints

Additional inspection, testing, and finishing are available depending on what a part needs.

CT Scanning

Non-destructive internal inspection: porosity, voids, and internal geometry checked against the original design file.

Testing & Validation

Tensile and hardness testing as standard, with fatigue and impact testing available for programs that call for it. Results are documented and tied back to the build.

Metallurgical Testing

Microstructure and grain analysis by optical and scanning electron microscopy, for parts headed into regulated or safety-critical applications.

Post-Processing

Stress relief, hot isostatic pressing, heat treatment, critical-feature machining, and surface finishing, applied as the part requires. Parts can be de-plated and post-processed, or shipped as complete build plates for customers who handle their own finishing.
